American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronotics Foundation (AIAA)

AIAA was established in 1963 and is dedicated to promoting the aerospace profession. With more than 31,000 members, AIAA is the world’s largest professional society and links scientists, engineers and allied professionals with relevant businesses, societies and career resources. AIAA supports K-12 teachers who incorporate science and math into their curricula by offering small classroom grants.

Archibald Bush Foundation

The Archibald Bush Foundation is based in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was established in 1953. The foundation has provided more than $800 million in grants and fellowships to help communities in Minnesota and North and South Dakota. Twenty-three sovereign Native American nations that share the three states are among the communities served by the Bush Foundation. Other programs supported by the foundation include the Teacher Effectiveness Initiative, which is a 10-year initiative that was launched in 2009. In partnership with 14 higher-education institutions in Minnesota and North and South Dakota, a $40 million grant has been allocated to recruit and train new teachers to serve in public schools throughout the region.

Captain Planet Foundation

Captain Planet Foundation supports innovative educational programs that provide hands-on, environmental projects for children. The foundation solicits proposals that highlight cross-cultural understandings, pertaining to environmental issues, and involves children between ages 6-18. Grant awards range from $250 to $2,500. Applicants are advised to review the deadlines and submission guidelines.

The Ford Foundation

The Ford Foundation is headquartered in New York City and was founded in 1936. The foundation supports a variety of programs around the world such as gender equity, human rights, civil society and poverty alleviation. The Ford Foundation provides grants to individuals and organizations. Individual grants generally focus on fellowships for advanced study and are not intended for undergraduate students. In 2009, the foundation awarded $490 million in grant funding.
