Virginia Charities and Organizations that Help with Bills

 

Find charities and aid organizations located in Virginia that can assist with paying bills. In addition to these groups and organizations listed below, there are also assistance programs provided by the Virginia state government. In addition, there are national charities and organizations that can provide you with assistance as well.

 

Action in Community Through Service (ACTS)
This is a community organization whose goal is to reduce homelessness and hunger. The programs offered by ACTS' programs include emergency assistance, transitional housing, child care, a homeless shelter, a free Help line, and thrift stores.

 

American Electric Power
Neighbor-to-Neighbor charity organization will help pay utility and electric bills.

 

Atmos Energy
They offer a program called Sharing the Warmth, which is a charity program that is funded by customer donations, and those donations are combined with company donations to help families and individuals people pay their gas bills.

 

Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)
They  provide groceries to individuals and families in Virginia that are referred to them by the Arlington County Department of Human Services. They help Arlington residents who cannot afford to purchase sufficient food and pay for grocery bills, and who can’t meet their basic needs.

 

Citizens Energy Oil Heat Program
Provides free heating oil to help reduce winter heating bills and aid Virginia families with making it through the cold winter months.

 

City of Charlottesville
The Gas Assistance Program will offer emergency payments for lower income families and individuals that are not able to pay their heating or gas bills and have used up all other government assistance.

 

Columbia Gas of Virginia
Heatshare is an assistance program that is managed by the Salvation Army charity, and it is an emergency fund that was created to help households with paying their energy bills.

 

Dominion Virginia Power, Harrisonburg Electric Commission, and Virginia Natural Gas
All of these companies contribute to EnergyShare, which was created in 1983 to help low-income households pay any type of cooling or heating bill.

 

Legal Aid and Representation
Get free legal advice, consultation, and aid from lawyers at non-profit firms located across the state of Virginia. They can help with evictions, foreclosures, domestic issues, and more.

 

 

 Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative

Receive aid from Operation Round Up, which is funded by customer and utility donations, and it will help pay heating, utility bills, medical bills, and more.

 

United Community Ministries (UCM)
This group provides a variety of services including employment placement, job training, emergency assistance, homelessness prevention, developmental childcare, and supportive housing services. They want to do whatever they can to assist Virginia families and individuals.

 

Washington Gas
The Washington Area Fuel Fund will provide heating bill assistance for lower income households in the Washington D.C. area that have exhausted or do not qualify for other government assistance programs.

 

William Byrd Community House (WBCH)
This organization helps people and families in the Richmond area become self sufficient, and will provide various resources.
