Michigan charities and organizations that help with bills

 

In addition to the charities and organizations below in Michigan that can help provide you assistance and aid, there are also Michigan state government assistance programs that are available. More on these assistance programs.

Charity Motors
Charity Motors will provide transportation assistance to families in need and underprivileged individuals that is at a price that is significantly below fair market value to help foster educational advancement.  and personal development.

 

Citizens Energy Free Heating Oil Heat Program
This charity organization provides very cheap or free heating oil to Michigan families in need of winter heating assistance.

 

Consumers Energy 
PeopleCare is an organization that was formed between Consumers Energy and The Salvation Army to help Michigan households in need and who may not qualify for other assistance yet are struggling to pay bills and make ends meet. Some of the assistance provided includes food, heating aid, transportation and help with medical needs.

 

Heat and Warmth (THAW) Fund
Provides priority, emergency electric and heating bill assistance to lower income families, senior citizens, and struggling individuals that live anywhere throughout the state of Michigan who may be in danger of losing essential heat or electricity services.

 

Home Heating Credit
A state tax credit that is provided to help assist lower income families living in Michigan with the cost of their heating bills and the expense of heating their homes.

 

Lansing Board of Water & Light 
The Pennies for Power Program provides utility shutoff and heating service shutoff protection for lower income families in the Lansing Michigan area.

 

Legal Aid
A few law firms in Michigan will provide lower income residents with free legal services. 

 

Lighthouse of Oakland County (LOC) 
This charity organization has been providing services to low-income families in Oakland County Michigan since 1972. Some of the assistance provided includes affordable housing, education homeowners to housing issues, provides emergency help with medical and dental bills, food, housing, utility and heating bill assistance, and more.

 

Operation Round Up

This charity assistance program is available from some utility companies in Michigan. Contributions from customers are used to fund this program, and the grants available can be used for a variety of reasons, including to help pay medical bills, pay utility and heating bills, provide food, emergency help with rent, and more.

 

State Emergency Relief (SER)
This program ER provides limited help to households with lower incomes who have an emergency that threatens their health or safety.

 

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Provides a variety of services to the needs including food, housing, transportation, and other aid.
