Women Veterans Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship
Women Veterans Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) delivers high quality training, networking and mentoring to women veterans.
V-WISE is committed to women Veterans by providing them the tools to become successful entrepreneurs.
Our goal is to integrate their leadership, integrity, focus
and drive into a premier educational training program taught by accomplished entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship educators from across the United States.
V-WISE enables women Veterans to find their passion and to learn the business-savvy skills to turn their ideas or businesses into a growth ventures. V-WISE recognizes entrepreneurship an important part of economic growth across the country and this program is the key for women Veterans to truly pursue their dreams and to make them a reality.
V-WISE is a three-phase program
PHASE 1: What’s first?
A 15 day online course focused on the basic skills of entrepreneurship and the ‘language of business.’
PHASE 2: Ready, Set, Goal!
A three-day conference where participants are exposed to accomplished entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship educators from across the United States. The program includes two tracks of training; a 'growth track' tailored to those participants already in business, and a 'startup' track focused on potential future entrepreneurs. Courses include business planning, marketing, accounting/finance, operations/production, human resources and work life balance. (Online courses are a prerequisite to conference training). Hotel room and tax are completely paid for and each attendee has a room of their own! By applying, your accommodations are taken care of.
V-WISE is open to all female Veterans* with a passion for entrepreneurship and the desire to start their own business. Applicants may have served honorably in any branch of the service during any era. Participants must be able to complete the online component of the program and be able to travel to one of the mandatory conferences held at numerous times throughout 2013.
*Now open to female spouses/partners of veteran business owners.
PHASE 3: Keep Moving…
Delivery of a comprehensive listing of community-level resources covering the Small Business Administration (SBA), Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), Women's Business Development Centers (WBDC), Veteran Business Outreach Centers (VBOC), Women's Business Centers and S.C.O.R.E offices.
Is V-WISE for me?
V-WISE is open to all female Veterans* with a passion for entrepreneurship and the desire to start their own business. Applicants may have served in any branch of the military during any era. Participants must be able to complete the online component of the program and be able to travel to one of the mandatory conferences held at numerous times from spring 2011 through fall 2013.

How do I apply?
Please apply at http://www.whitman.syr.edu/VWISEApplication2/. Admission is on a rolling basis and early application is highly encouraged. Selection is based on proof of military status and demonstration of entrepreneurial passion on the application. We ask that spouses/partners of veteran business owners supply the DD214 or LES of the veteran. After your application is accepted by Syracuse University, a registration link will be sent via email. This registration link will allow for selection of the class schedule and payment of the $75.00 registration fee.
What will it cost?
This program is funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and administered by the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. The cost to the participant is minimal. The participant is responsible for a $75.00 registration fee*, transportation to and from the airport, parking fees when applicable, and dinner on the second evening of the conference. All other expenses are covered, i.e. (hotel, books, and food).
