New York organizations and charities help with bills
These charities and organizations in New York can help you. In addition, there are also New York state government run assistance programs.
In addition to these New York charities and organizations, there are many national organizations and charities that provide aid as well.
$1 Energy Fund
This aid program works with about 20 utility companies in New York and other states to provide tangible aid to people in need of affording adequate and safe utility service.
Central Hudson Gas & Electric
The Good Neighbor Fund
Central Hudson’s Good Neighbor Fund provides a last resort cash grant to help pay utility and heating bills for customers who have used up all other forms of energy bill assistance.
Citizens Energy Oil Heat Program
Provides free or very cheap heating oil to families in need.
Episcopal Charities of the Diocese of New York
The assistance program focus is in one of two areas: basic human needs including emergency services and bill help, as well as youth opportunity grants.
Essex County
A Last Stop Heating Assistance Program that will assist both moderate and lower income families and individuals who need heating bill aid but do not meet income guidelines and are not eligible for the federal Home Energy Assistance Program.
Goddard Riverside Community Center
This charity group works to meet people's basic needs, such as food, medical care, shelter, and education.
KeySpan
The Neighborhood Heating Fund and Project Warmth help with paying heating bills and providing energy saving improvements.

This organization provides free legal advice and counseling to low and moderate income families. Learn more.
Modest Needs
This charity helps hardworking, lower income families in New York afford the kinds of short-term emergency expenses such as medical care and utility bills.
National Fuel Gas Company
If you need heating bill help, the Neighbor for Neighbor Heat provides cash grants that help New York families prevent disconnection of their utility service, or to help pay current and/or past due energy bills.
National Grid and Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation
Care and Share assists households in which a member is disabled, 60 or older, and is receiving Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability. It will also help a family with a member who is experiencing a medical emergency.
New York Energy $mart
This organization helps reduces energy costs of both moderate and lower income New York households by providing affordable energy saving improvements to families that are not eligible for the federally funded Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).
New York State Electric and Gas
Project Share will assist qualified customers with paying for energy emergencies such as repairs to heating equipment, fuel bills, home weatherization and water heater replacements.

Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation
Heating Fund assists New York families who are not eligible for any other government aid or assistance programs.
Sephardic Bikur Holim
Assists the the poor with food, help with housing and rent, and also mental and medical care.
STRIVE (Support and Training Result in Valuable Employees)
The goal is this group is to place the unemployed in jobs and to keep them employed.
Vocational Foundation, Inc.
This organization is committed to empowering New York City's mostly young adults with the tools needed to obtain employment, or help their career growth and achieve their highest potential. The group creates lasting impact through their comprehensive, individualized approach to career training, professional and personal counseling, GED preparation, job placement, training, and retention services.
