Q. What can I take to court? It is okay to take files, paperwork and/or evidence to support your case. Do not take recording devices (like pda's or ipods), cell phones, food, beverages, or newspapers. 

 

 

Q.  What should I wear to court? Remember, going to court will make an impression whether it is a good or bad impression. Wear a suit, slacks, or a dress. If you do not have a suit wear a pair of slacks or jeans and a business jacket. Don't wear a hat unless it is for religious reasons. Take your eye glasses if you need them to see.

Q.  Can I take snacks to court? No, it is not wise to take snacks into the courtroom. Also, no chewing gum, tobacco, or snacks are allowed. Make sure you eat prior to going to court. Most courts have breakrooms where you are able to purchase snacks and drinks. 

 

 

Q.  Can I bring my children to court? Children are allowed in most courtrooms, but only if they are quiet if you must bring your children, have someone with you who can take the child out if he or she becomes loud or disruptive. 

 

 

Q.  What should I call the judge? The Judge is to be addressed as, "Your Honor", not Judge Smith. Talking only to the Judge and (in a soft voice) to your attorney. 

 

 

Q. Is it okay to talk to the other attorney's. Do not address the opposing counsel or other party. When referring to others, do not use first names, but use Mr. Davis or Mrs. Jackson.
